Macstaff was three years old in February 2019 and to celebrate, MD Anthony McCormack is offering a free third placement to new customers. Find out the full details of the offer and Anthony’s reflections on the growth of the business in this blog.

I am proud to say that Macstaff turned three on Monday 4 February. So the organisation I used to call ‘my baby’, is now a toddler!

Birthdays are milestones that, for all of us, bring about reflection, plans for the future and, on this occasion, a special deal for new clients too (see further down for more details).

Macstaff has already made over a century of successful placements with more than 20 very valued clients.

Nowhere near the numbers of bigger agencies. But every single one of those permanent placements has been worked on by myself diligently, honestly and enthusiastically in order to get the right result for both our client and candidate. It is a personal touch which I will continue to offer.

I have developed partner companies that are general contractors and subbies in construction and civils, engineering consultancies, FM service providers and suppliers, engineering product and service firms, manufacturers in metals, plastics, electronics and other sectors, estate agents and surveyors.

The positions we have filled have ranged from the basement to the boardroom, but our speciality is professional, skilled and technical jobs.

Expertise and integrity

While Macstaff broadly follows the theme of construction, property and engineering, we will partner with firms from other industries that value, expertise, integrity and commitment. Those things are always close to my heart as a business owner.

Anyone who knows recruitment, knows there are ups-and-downs, and there has certainly been some of those over the past three years.  It has never been harder to recruit the right staff, than this time of acute skills shortage and abundant choices for demanding candidates. However, we are relentless in pursuit of the win-win scenario, where companies are happy to secure a capable and committed employee who is, in turn, rewarded with a great long-term career move to that organisation.

The recruitment industry and business in general tend to measure accomplishments by numbers, such as the 100 placements I mention. But for me, it’s the people I remember as I look back. Stories of the right person taking people’s businesses to the next level. While the right job has also taken people’s careers to the next level too!

So over these past three years, I have built Macstaff up by both revenue and reputation.

  1. I have been proud to serve with a big-name contractor as a Tier 1 National PSL partner, filling key positions for them in London, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Bristol and Aberdeen. Those positions have ranged from site engineers and project managers to estimators and quantity surveyors.
  2. I have become a trusted partner to a friendly, family owned, electronics firm who are punching above their weight, essentially acting as their internal recruitment team and helping facilitate this growth by recruiting over a dozen staff as service engineers and technicians, customer service advisors and logistics coordinators.
  3. I have been honoured to represent a fantastic metals firm with unique architectural products that are poised for exponential growth.  New sales and engineering employees placed with them initially made up a significant proportion of the office, so culture fit was key and it was great to hear the client say that the new team was the nicest they had ever had!

As I look forward to growing Macstaff, in the coming years, I think of a growing brand, a growing influence and making a bigger difference. Growth in terms of headcount and revenue will happen but this will not be at expense of quality and the values that I hold dearly and will always assure for our clients.
